Sit across the table from each other. Stand the Duo up like a laptop between you: the upright half is your tracking grid, the flat half is your own fleet. Tap a cell to aim, hold it to fire. When your turn is over, fold the device shut, turn it to your opponent, and they open it. Closed, the outer screen only shows a neutral periscope view, never a board.
Yes. On an iPhone without a fold, a button takes the place of folding: you pass the phone across the table and the other player taps to start. The game is the same; the fold just makes the hand-over physical.
Folding hides your board: the game only shows a fleet while the device is open. If someone deliberately opens the device during your turn, they see whatever is on screen, just like looking over a board at the table. That's a rule between players, not a lock.
Firing takes a short hold, so a wobble on the table can never fire a shot by accident. A tap only aims. Keep your finger on the cell until the ring is full.
Game Center only knows the owner of the device, so one seat earns them: player one, unless you change it under Settings → Game Center. If you're not signed in to Game Center, the game plays exactly the same.
Settings → Other → Reset score.
Settings → Effects → Calm turns off shake, flashes and flying debris. With Reduce Motion on in iOS, that always applies.
